A 236xxx serial number would indicate a late 1970's production. Your gun but, it appears to be a Model 6 or 6E. I need clear, close-up photos of the engraving pattern to positively I.D. Not sure if the image has loaded correctly. I would like to know if possible what model and year that it is. It has cocking indicators which I understand were not on all models if that helps with the id. I would describe the engraving as tight scrollwork and although it was originally colour case hardened, most of this has now gone.
The serial number is 6 digits beginning with 236. When I first saw it there was virtually no blueing left on the barrels and the woodwork was dented, scratched and in a hell of a mess. I have a VS 12 gauge sidelock which was rescued from the crusher and with some help from a gunmaker who was kind enough to show me the traditional methods for wood renovation along with his work on the hardware has given a new lease of life to something which obviously had a hard working life on a farm.
